Quick Verdict — Score: 82/100

Moz remains the friendliest on-ramp to serious SEO, and its Domain Authority metric is still the number clients recognize. But smaller keyword and backlink indexes and weekly-only rank tracking mean data-hungry pros will outgrow it.

Who Is This For

SEO beginners, bloggers, content marketers, and small agencies who want an approachable, well-documented toolkit. It shines for anyone who reports Domain Authority to clients or is still learning SEO fundamentals through Moz Academy and the community.

Who Is This NOT For

Data-hungry SEO professionals, large e-commerce sites, and agencies that need daily rank tracking or the deepest keyword and backlink indexes. Those teams get more from Ahrefs or Semrush, whose databases and crawl ceilings are larger.

Pros

  • +Domain Authority and Page Authority are industry-standard, client-friendly metrics unique to Moz
  • +Genuinely beginner-friendly interface plus strong free learning via Moz Academy and the community
  • +Permanent free tools (MozBar, limited Keyword Explorer and Link Explorer) let you try before paying
  • +Site Crawl and On-Page Grader give clear, actionable technical SEO fixes

Cons

  • -Keyword and backlink databases are smaller than Ahrefs and Semrush
  • -Rank tracking updates weekly rather than daily
  • -Crawl limits get restrictive on large or e-commerce sites
  • -Pricing is steep for solo makers relative to the data depth offered
  • -Fewer content-optimization and PPC tools than all-in-one competitors

Key Features

Domain Authority & Page Authority: Moz's signature 1-100 scores that predict how likely a domain or page is to rank, widely used as a client-facing benchmark.
Keyword Explorer: Keyword research with search volume, difficulty, organic CTR, and a combined Priority score, now with AI-powered suggestions.
Link Explorer: Backlink analysis built on a very large link index for auditing your profile and spotting competitor links.
Site Crawl: Automated weekly technical audits that flag broken links, duplicate content, missing meta tags, and crawlability issues.
Rank Tracking: Tracks keyword positions across your sites and locations, with progress reporting over time.
On-Page Grader: Page-level optimization recommendations scored against a target keyword.
MozBar: Free Chrome extension that overlays Domain Authority, Page Authority, and link metrics directly on search results.
Custom & scheduled reports: Branded, automated reports (Standard tier and up) for sharing SEO progress with clients or stakeholders.

Quick Setup Guide

  1. Create a free Moz account or start the 30-day Moz Pro free trial from the pricing page
  2. Add your website as a Campaign and connect Google Analytics and Search Console
  3. Enter target keywords into the rank tracker and add your competitor domains
  4. Run a Site Crawl to surface technical issues and review On-Page Grader recommendations
  5. Use Keyword Explorer to find opportunities by volume, difficulty, and Priority score
  6. Check Link Explorer and your Domain Authority to benchmark your backlink profile
  7. Schedule automated reports (Standard tier and up) to track progress over time

Bottom Line

Moz is the most approachable of the major SEO suites and the home of Domain Authority, the metric many clients still ask for by name. Its free tools and 30-day trial make it low-risk to test, and Site Crawl plus On-Page Grader deliver clear fixes for beginners. But its keyword and backlink data are shallower than Ahrefs and Semrush, and rank tracking is only weekly, so growing teams often graduate to a deeper tool. Best value for newcomers, bloggers, and small agencies rather than data-intensive pros.

Great UI with a wide range of tools to improve SEO, responsive and easy to setup and track keywords. But the SERP analysis data and rankings are not as accurate as your industry leaders like ahrefs and semrush.

Customer service was bad. I signed up for a free 30 day trial and then immediately got told it was 7 days.

The clean, clutter-free UX and SEO tools such as page optimisation scores are excellent. My one gripe: ranking data can sometimes take more than a week to populate which is not ideal when on deadline.
